If you find it hard to stay on task and not be constantly distracted you are not alone. There is always something you would rather be doing then that boring task we know we should be doing but in reality don’t really want to. So many things that distract you constantly like phone notifications, friends and family. Sometimes it can be hard to know what you can and can’t ignore.
Distractions will constantly be there bombarding us! Being able to figure out how to get around them and keep the focus is key. In the end what will help us more in the long run. A little fun now or but a less successful future or a bit of hard work now and time and money to enjoy it in the future.
In this post we will be going over some of the reasons why you are being distracted and how you can over come those distractions. No mater how talented you may be or think you are you will never accomplish much if you can’t stick to things and see things threw to the end. After all do you want to continue going threw life jumping from one thing to the next. Never seeing what you could accomplish if you could just stick things out a bit longer. You may have wasted a lot of time already but it is never too late to start doing things properly and being successful.
Busy constantly distracted social butterfly
Social media can be a good way to connect with old friends, stay in touch with family and even promote your business. Unfortunately with the good can come a some bad. Constant notifications that take your attention away from the task at hand. Even without being notified you may find your self using it as a way to escape work. It can be easy to waste hours reading posts, watching videos and chatting. If you have to, put the phone away, or turn it off. Set a timer for a certain amount of time you will work before you allow your self to check the phone or watch that video. If you have friends that want to meet up set aside an amount of time to do your work before the fun. You will enjoy that time out a lot more when you don’t have a bunch of work waiting for you back at home.
You are trying to do too much at once
Maybe the reason you never get any thing finished is because you are trying to do every thing. You want to learn the guitar, write that novel and fight world hunger, and that’s just your short list. You could be constantly picking up new goals because you are not good at seeing things threw. It feels fun when it’s something new. But once it starts to become work and not so fun you put it aside and start something else. This isn’t getting you any where. You are never going to actually get good at something if you don’t stick at it. You need to trim the list down to a couple things you want to accomplish with in a year. Say for instance three things, fitness, education and a skill like driving. Depending on where you live having your drivers license can be handy. Some education or training may help you get a better job. And getting more fit can help you feel more motivated and healthy. Write out your main goals you want to accomplish within a year. Be realistic because you actually have to work on them daily or at least a few times a week. You might even want to pick one to start with that you will actually stick with. If you keep at it for the year you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.
Maybe the goal is just too hard
Then you should give up! Just kidding, but maybe you are biting off a bit more then you can chew. Instead of writing that novel start with a short story, then write another one. Or say I’m going to write a chapter each day. If you feel motivated write more. But at least do the amount you have pre determined you will do. Instead of saying you will body build and get buff start with just going consistently. Instead of going on that extreme diet swap out a few things like an apple instead of a donut. Practice that instrument for half an hour a day constantly over going all in for a day, then not doing it again for a while. Do you see what I am getting at here. By breaking things up into bite sized short goals you can accomplish more over all if you constantly work at it. Also you should track your progress so you can see how far you have come. At the time of writing this I have constantly practiced learning a new langue threw an app. I have constantly practiced every day for over 300 days. I set a low goal in order to actually keep at it. It only takes me about a half hour. I could have set a much higher setting making it take a lot more of my time. But I wanted to actually keep at it.
You really aren’t into it
This may be the hardest one but it might also be the most liberating. Sometimes our image of our selves doesn’t actually line up to who we truly are. Maybe the reason you can’t complete the things you are trying to make your self do is because you aren’t really into them. Maybe you are trying to be someone you aren’t really. Maybe you are trying to train for some office job but you really don’t enjoy that environment. Or maybe you think you are a rugged homesteader but really you aren’t prepared to put in the work. The idea sounds nice but the work is a whole other deal. I had a friend that would always talk about turning a bus or some vehicle into a home. He even bought a bus once. He got the seats out but that was it. Ended up selling it. This man is lazy and hasn’t ever accomplished much. His image of his self is definitely not who he is in reality. Being real with your self can be the best feeling. You still can accomplish things if you stick to them. Just start out small and be consistent.
